Iraq Approves Constitution

Democrat or Republican, Liberal or Conservative, Muslim or Christian, Iraqi or American. Iraq having a democratically approved constitution is one of the best things that has happened in a while.

We should all celebrate a little today.

Democratically approved = good, but it is a small step on the road to stability. The majority parties, the DAWA and the SIRI are direct descendents of violent terrorist groups allied with Iran (the Dawa actually created the Hezbollah, which is still on the US terrorism sh*t list).

The Kurds are getting oil fields in the north, the Shiite's are getting oil fields in the south, and the Suni are getting nothing.

Since the Sunni are the previous regime's power elite, and since the Kurd and Shiite areas will have their own prime ministers that will report to the overall Iraqi government, this looks like a situation that is ultra-ripe for civil war.

And since a civil war could draw in Iran, and in turn Saudi Arabia, this could get messy for the entire region, which is basically the heart of the world's energy economy.

Still, it is encouraging that the constitution could actually get approved at all. In a purely "promote democracy" sense, progress has been made.
