It so happens that an extensive study of the explosive suspected in the "baby bottle plot" is available online. It turns out that the process of combining the liquids requires so much care and time, that it is unlikely it could be done on a plane. Further, even if someone were able to do it perfectly, the explosive power would only be enough to kill a few passengers and perhaps blow out some windows (a non-fatality-inducing event).
